The Importance of Hydration, in and out of the gym

Whether you are a regular gym user or not, keeping your body hydrated is an extremely important part of a healthy lifestyle. When people are exercising they often consider their intake of liquids, and try to ensure that they take on enough fluid to make sure that their body stays hydrated throughout their workout. However, hydration is just as important outside of the gym.

Making sure that you drink enough liquids and especially water can have a wide range of benefits. As our bodies are mainly made up of water it is important in many bodily functions including circulation and digestion and can help our bodies to work to their full capacity. Water enables nutrients to be transported to cells and tissues of the body and drinking enough can help to eliminate toxic and noxious substances that can help stop urinary infections.

It is necessary to enable the human body to digest and absorb vitamins and nutrients that are key to a fully functioning and healthy body. If you become dehydrated this can lead to stress on the body and this stress can cause dehydration to heighten so it is important to drink regularly in order to counteract this. You can often tell if you are dehydrated as you are likely to suffer from symptoms such as increased thirst, dry mouth, headaches, weakness and cramping but this can be counteracted by making sure you drink little and often.

Drinking enough water is also important for your appearance as it can help your skin to stay clear of blemishes and dryness. It is also useful to drink enough water if you are trying to lose weight as it enables the body to work to it’s potential when digesting food. As staying hydrated helps your body and mind to function well it is also important to make sure you take on enough liquids at work as this can help to keep you working to your potential and have the energy you need rather than feeling slow and sluggish.

When at the gym it is important to make sure you have a drink handy so that you replenish lost fluid and allow your body to get rid of any toxins through sweat and help to regulate your body temperature. If you are a regular gym user or play sports and need to get back other nutrients that are lost during exercise it is also good to take on some sports drinks such as Powerade that as well as rehydrating the body contain vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates that are often lost in serious dehydration and need replenishing after physical exertion.

If you are going to be making a trip to the gym or participating in some form of exercise it is also beneficial to make sure you are hydrated in the time leading up to your exercise. This will enable you to stray hydrated during your physical activity and enable you to perform better. So whether you are going to the gym, playing sport or just heading to work make sure that you stay properly hydrated to get the best from your day.
